OPPORTUNITIES FOR

GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSIONS

Artspace reviews submissions for Gallery 1 exhibitions annually in February, and biannually for the Flatfile and all other gallery spaces in February and July. Note: Artspace is no longer accepting slides for consideration.

Artspace will notify you about the status of your submissions within six weeks of the submission deadline. Please e-mail us only if you do not hear from us within this time frame, no phone calls or walk-ins, please. Preference for all spaces will be given to artists who have not exhibited at the gallery in the past three years (excluding during City-Wide Open Studios). Incomplete proposals will not be reviewed.

Artists interested in the Flatfile or other gallery spaces should submit:

• 10 to 20 digital images, clearly labeled by title, with an image list on the CD, listing all works by name, title, date, dimensions, and media. Submit your CD with digital images in JPG format, sized to be viewed easily, without zooming or resizing, about 8x10” at screen resolution 72 dpi.
• A resume, bio, or curriculum vitae.
• An artist statement about the proposed body of work
or installation.
• A self-addressed stamped envelope with sufficient postage for the return of all the materials. We reserve the right to dispose of materials as we see fit if they are not accompanied by a SASE.

Artists who would like to propose to curate a group exhibition in Gallery 1 or to create a solo or collaborative installation in any other gallery spaces, please submit:

• A description of the theme of the show, or project, and the artwork to be included.
• For each artist proposed, please submit up to 20 digital images in jpg format on a CD or for video artists only, a DVD. CDs and DVDs should be labeled with name, title, dates, and dimensions. Please ensure that your images can be viewed easily, without zooming in or resizing. Number your images in the order you would like them viewed (01.jpg, 02.jpg, etc.) and include a printed list of the name, title, date, and dimensions for each file.
• Resumes/bios of artists, curator(s) artist statements, recent reviews, and other exhibition support if applicable.
• A list of, and budget for, specialized needs not covered by the provisions mentioned in the Artspace description and any unusual space requirements.
• An explanation of how the proposed project is complementary and/or relevant to Artspace’s mission and the New Haven community.
• A description of how this project might offer opportunities for additional related programming.
• Preferred exhibition dates. As you choose your preferred dates, please allow time for fundraising if you will need help in
doing so.
• Possible sources of external funding available to the project, if additional funds are needed. While our funding is limited, our staff is available to consult with accepted curators/artists who need to raise additional funds. Because grant cycles typically require a 9-15 month lead time, the more advance notice we are given, the more helpful we can be.
