untitled (space): Thread
Curated by Trifocal Projects
Thread is an exhibition that explored the idea of “network” as an interconnected system of things, ideas, work or people. The physical exhibition featured “seed artists”. Thread online began with the “seed artists” inviting other artists to participate in the show, via the website. In turn, these invited artists were encouraged to invite others, and so on. With each new artist, the network grew. Featuring Christina Ayala and John Morris, Eudald Lerga, Eva Lee, Hayes Raffle, and Scott Snibbe.

Project Room: Fang Ling-An:
Memories don't remember memories, Earth or Sky is Circle or Square

A site-specific installation in the project room that dealt with the artist’s childhood memories of growing up in China combined with the recontextualization of the Artspace architecture. The exhibition created a space to trigger memory.

May 13 – Sept 16, 2006

Flatfile: Teen Docents Curate
The Artspace Teen Docents (a group of High School Students from around New Haven) chose a selection of works from the Artspace Flatfiles, a collection of over 300 works on paper by regional artists.

Artspace Lounge: Gerry Saladyga: 9th Square Light
An installation based on the reconstruction and renovation of New Haven's 9th Square experienced during the light and heat of summer.

The Lot
Micah Silver and Colby Brown (New York, New Haven): The Phoenix
A lattice of 12 video cameras (surveillance type) and 12 speakers was constructed 15’ above the Lot using aircraft cable to suspend the devices. The cameras tracked movements of pedestrians within and through the space. These movements were then stored within a computer running software, which over time was trained to understand normal patterns of movement or behavior. Sound was then used to engage these patterns spatially through a matrix of sonic responses.

Mar 18 – Apr 22, 2006

Project Room: Maximilian Goldfarb: Things Armature
An exhibition that dealt with the gathering and reorienting of information from the contemporary urban landscape. Transmissions from a police band radio scanner were captured with simultaneous video imagery of discarded objects, creating an alliance between sound and form. As the radio transmissions became affixed to the objects, the fragmented narrative of infinite messages created an armature; a petrified, superstructure of public grammar.

Jan 28 – Mar 5, 2006

Flatfile: Fethi Megheli: The War Series
The war series consisted of a collage-installation using fragments of prints, charcoal and other media. The other images are a group of Intaglio-Type prints, which related to the war theme.

Project Room: Kirsten Reynolds: Evidence
A site-specific installation made up of architectural props and cartoon-like creatures, which dealt with the theatrical as a set of bizarre and grotesque scenarios that toy with yet never quite fulfilled the desire for resolution.

Jan 28 – Mar 18, 2006
untitled (space): Confinements and the Arts of Decoration
Featuring: Elise Martens, Caterina Verde and Gloria Zein. This exhibition dealt with ideas of how decoration creates a type of confinement within the codes of culture. The artists explored these ideas through a series of installation based projects that reference psychological texts, works on extreme survival, boundaries and the creation of fortressed cities, the decorative arts and their utopian visions.

Jan 21 - May 26, 2006

Artspace Annex, The Lot: Public Art / Moving Sites
An innovative public art project which showcased three art installations that traveled to three New England communities. Featuring SPURSE, Michael Oatman, Dewitt Godfrey.
