Artist Statement
America is often identified with its music and its love of big cars and the open road. The title, Bird of Song, comes from the lyrics of a Beck song: “A bird of song is heard no longer, in evacuated heavens.” The Oil Derrick Tower in the background is a motif that frequents my work and speaks to the twilight of the oil era we are experiencing. The crow, often a harbinger of bad news or death, squawks out the swan song of an American way of life.
