The paintings of New Haven artist Christopher Mir are frequently described as mystical and dreamlike.  As an undergraduate at Marlboro College, Mir minored in Anthropology.  It’s no wonder, then, his work is informed by studies in mythology and Native American tradition.  His work is a synthesis of the real and surreal: hand-drawn copies from magazines are combined with landscapes of his own imagining.  Inspired by collage, his end-products—created from oils and acrylics—are what natural history dioramas might look like if we lived in a more fantastical world.  Mir received a BA in Painting and Anthropology from Marlboro College in Vermont and an MFA in Painting/Printmaking from the Boston University School for the Arts.
