Born in Seattle, Washington in 1959, Jessica Stockholder grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia and studied painting and sculpture at the University of British Columbia and at Yale University. Now recognized for pioneering the multi-media installation, her energetic and unique pieces give new value and meaning to the variety of commonplace materials she combines and reassembles. Stockholderís work has been exhibited at Dia Center for the Arts,
the Whitney Museum of American Art, P.S. 1, SITE Santa Fe, the Venice Biennale, Kunstmuseum St. Gallen, and Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris. She is currently Director of Graduate Studies in Sculpture at the Yale School of Art.
