Based in New York, Richard Artschwager is an American
pop artist born in Washington, D.C., in 1923. He spent much of his childhood in New Mexico, and served in World War II; he later received a BA in Chemistry from Cornell University. Artschwager's printmaking has, for over three decades, concerned itself with a motif of six objects: table, window, mirror, door, rug, and basket. These have been featured in over fifty drawings and two paintings. Artschwager's first solo exhibition was at the Leo Castelli Gallery in New York in 1965, and since then has been a part of numerous exhibitions worldwide. His work is also in many private and public collections including The Whitney Museum of American Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Centre George Pompidou in Paris, The Tate Modern in London and MAK, Vienna. He is represented by Harlan & Weaver.
